What is Sky Go?

First off, let’s discuss what Sky Go is. It’s a service that’s available to all Sky customers, and lets you watch Sky content on the move, typically on a smartphone, laptop or tablet. If you’re not a Sky customer, it’s also possible to get a Sky Go subscription.

Sky Go offers access to Sky’s entertainment channels, Sky Movies, Sky Sports, and over 500 movies on demand. For full details, visit the official Sky Go website.

Alternatively, Sky Go is a streaming service that allows Sky subscribers to watch programmes away from the home. This lets Sky customers register two devices (or four, if you pay more for Sky Go Extra). In effect, this would let you log in to watch Sky programming if you used the account details of a family member who has a Sky subscription. Month-long Sky Sports pass on NOW TV. If you are going to watch a lot of the action on Sky Sports it’s probably cheaper to get a subscription via Sky, Virgin or BT. But if you want to dip in and out month by month you can buy a month pass for £33.99.

However, the Sky Go app is downloadable for Android users, so if you have an Android TV you may be able to install the Android app and watch Sky Go content. Alternatively, if you have a console, such as an Xbox or a PlayStation, download the Sky Go app and watch it on your TV through that way. Netflix – £9.99/month for the HD package – you get TV programmes + movies; NOW Entertainment Pass for Sky’s TV channels including Sky Atlantic – £9.99/month; Amazon Prime Instant Video – £79 for a year, which comes down to £6.5/month – you get TV programmes + movies. This comes down to a total of £26.48 per month.

Get Sky Tv In Usa

Fetch TV? Sky Go was available to users of the Fetch TV set-up box. Fetch TV sent into administration at the end of 2011, and the SKy Go service stopped in May 2012.

3View? There were plans for the Sky Player (the predecessor to Sky Go) to be available on the 3View box. As of early 2012, the 3View box ceased to be available and the manufacturer’s website vanished. At the time of writing, we’re not sure about the fate of 3View, but there’s no Sky Go on the service, and we can’t recommend it!

Apple TV? We understand that you can’t use an iPhone or iPad with an Apple TV box to get Sky Go on your TV. The Sky Go app does not support Airplay, so can’t output video onto a TV via an Apple TV box.

Sky Go on Humax boxes?

There has been discussion of Sky Go being available on the Humax Portal, meaning that Internet-enabled Freeview and Freesat boxes made by Humax will have access to Sky Go. The last official work we heard on this was back in 2011, when the service was “coming shortly”. At the time of writing, we’re not aware of any firm plans for Sky Go to come to Humax, but please add a comment below if you know differently

If we hear of any boxes that support Sky Go, we’ll add them to this page.

Sky Go and HDMI cables aren’t the easiest things to use together for various reasons. Here’s a workaround to make things a bit simpler for anyone wishing to watch Sky Go.

Sky Go is a great way to enjoy Sky channels on your TV, laptop, iPhone, iPad, Android tablet or phone.

Unfortunately, the service doesn’t allow you to use an HDMI cable directly, but there are ways to work around this issue.

Some Smart TVs also do not currently support the Sky Go app which means you might be stuck watching it on a smaller screen.

How to watch Sky Go on your phone

If you’re off on holiday or have a lot of travels planned and you’re a Sky subscriber, why not download the Sky Go app on your laptop or phone?

With this installed, you need to log in with your Sky ID and password. You should have set this up when you first joined Sky. With that done, you’re free to browse and enjoy Sky programming on your mobile device or laptop.

You can also download shows and movies to watch while you’re offline if you’re a Sky Go Extra customer, which is particularly useful when you’re heading abroad on holiday to avoid data charges.

Why won’t my HDMI cable work with Sky Go?

Sky TV hasn’t cited in an official statement why an HDMI cable won’t work when trying to watch Sky Go on your TV.

The reason for HDMI and Sky Go being incompatible is most likely a way of protecting the Sky Go content. Sky may be concerned with what customers could do with the Sky Go content. For all they know, customers could be sharing content with other people who aren’t paying customers by recording shows.

We understand this can be frustrating when you pay for the service and then you can’t use it the way you want to. Many Sky Go customers wish to watch the service on a bigger screen and an HDMI cable enables just that.
